Context for Story References (To read after watching the video)

Finding Nemo (2003) is the main influence behind the story structure, with it being told through Dan and Alfonso’s perspective.

The middle school boxing club is inspired by the wrestling club in Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010). The structure of the perspective text narration with characters speaking within the images are inspired by the books of the same name (2007 – 2022).

The majority of the third act, including the training sequence and the boxing match are inspired by Rocky IV (1985). The boxing match is also influenced by the Punch Out!! Series (1984 – 2009) and the recent Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games title (2019).

Alfonso suddenly changing his ways during the boxing match is inspired by how the Nerdlucks were reformed in Space Jam (1996).
